Things to Know: Junior Florida Cup

TAMPA, Fla– Next week, the best junior golfers in Florida will make their way to Sarasota for the Junior Florida Cup. A Ryder Cup style event, the Junior Florida Cup will pit the top juniors from North Florida and South Florida against each other.

Here's everything you need to know about the 15th Junior Florida Cup, which will be held August 2-3 at Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota.

Meet the Teams: North Team | South Team

Competition: The first day of the championship will consist of four-ball (better ball) matches in the morning, followed by foursomes (alternate shot) matches in the afternoon. Each of the first two days consists of morning and afternoon sessions of team play. The final day is reserved for 16 singles matches.

Host Course: Designed in 1926 by Donald Ross, Sara Bay Country Club underwent a renovation in 2018 by Kris Spence. The goal of the restoration that began in April 2018 was to bring back some of the Ross features that had been lost over time.

Scoring: Each match is worth one point to the team total

Junior Florida Cup History: The North Team captured the Florida Cup victory in 2019 with a 20 1/2 -11 1/2 win at Deerwood Country Club. The North Team leads in victories, 10-3. You can see the full history here.

How the Junior Florida Cup Teams Are Made: Each team consists of 10 boys and 6 girls selected primarily based on their position on the Junior Florida Cup points list.

How to Win the Junior Florida Cup: To win the Junior Florida Cup outright, a team must collect 16 1/2 points. In the case of a 16-16 draw, the winning team from the previous year retains the trophy for an additional year. The North Team, the 2019 champion, would retain the trophy in the event of a tie Sara Bay.
