| Country Club of Ocala Winter Series Champions
Tuesday, February 2, 2010
Thunderstorms and a flooded course shortened the FSGA Winter Series event at the Country Club of Ocala, in Ocala to 18 holes. Baldonick Fernandez and James Weick won the 40-54 age division as Rick Bauch and Tim Miller captured the 55-64 age division. Fred Allen and Joseph Devita topped the 65 and over age division of this four-ball event on February 1-2.
In the 40-54 age division, Baldonick Fernandez, from Pembroke Pines, and James Weick, of Fort Lauderdale, fired a three under par 69 to claim the title by seven strokes. This is Weick’s third victory of the Winter Series Season in five events. The duo from Port Orange, Jim Hammons and Brent Smith, finished alone in second place firing a four over par 76.
Rick Bauch, from Naples and Tim Miller, of Venice secured the 55-64 age division title by one stroke with a four under par 66. Bauch and Miller’s 66 was the low round of the tournament. Tom Johnson, of Tampa, and Kim Schwencke, from Temple Terrace, carded a five under par 67 to finish one shot back in second place. Ron Audi, from Ocala, and Bill Zylstra, of Ocklawaha, finished in third place with four under par 68.
Fred Allen, of North Venice and Joseph DeVita, of Venice captured the 65 and over age division title. The team from Venice fired a five under par 67 to win by two strokes. Charles Costolo, of Ocala, and Ken Couturier, from Melbourne, finished tied for second place with Edward Craig, of Orlando and Perry Noun, of Daytona Beach. Both teams carded a three under par 69.
The Winter Series events include eight competitions, six individual events and two four-ball events. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
